Week ending August 25th, 2014

This week was different... Ha Sister VanderHoeven and I had a great week and we had a lot of adventures ha ha We did a LOT of Service this week. I learned a really good lesson. Edmonds is such an amazing area are there are so many opportunities. This week we taught a lot fewer lessons then in weeks past, but we were able to serve a lot more people which is good! I learned that as long as we are working hard and doing our best we will have lessons where we are meant to and that we will serve when we are meant to. On Friday we went to the Lutheran Church to help pick up some food boxes. They usually donate food boxes to a food bank but this last week the food bank was closed... so they were stuck with a lot of food and needed help. so... we helped them out. We went to pick up what we thought was going to be 15 boxes... psych! It was 30.... (Ssiter VanderHoeven and I made a hilarious video about this whole day but apparently it is too long... so i will just have to recount the day for you...) So we thought we were getting 15 boxes of sorted food for families and that we were just going to pick it up... and then take it to the homes of families that needed it the most... Wrong again... It was thirty boxes of good AND bad food... not sorted.. at all... so we had to sort through all the rotten food to find the good food.... oh boy.... we thought it was just going to take the morning on Friday... wrong! It took the entire day... and we smelled like rotten food... ha ha and Sister VanderHoeven got a huge gash on ehr leg from one of the food crates... BUT With the help of one Tiffany Cosajay... We were able to put together 15 boxes full of food for needy families this week and then anonymously drop them off. It was so fun to hear on Sunday how they had been blessed. We didn't teach ANY lessons that day... but we were able to help 15 families... if you ask me that is better then teaching 15 lessons any day. :)
Also Sister Madsen... My last companion... she got super sick this week. She is in my zone and we are the only other sisters so they called us a bunch to help them out. We went over quite a bit to bring them groceries, get their mail, etc. so Sister Madsen's comp could get some fresh air... turns out sister Madsen ha an inner ear infection... you heard it right.. my last comp also had an ear infection ha ha but hers was inner ear so her balance was way thrown off and the poor thing couldn't keep anything down... so she became dehydrated and it was just a mess..... :( So we got to help our lovely sisters as well.
Thursday night we had a diner with a less active family... turns out they were having a summer party... with lots of wine and beer ha ha not the best place for missionaries but they were so lovely and they made us a great dinner. All of their friends were very nice to us and they actually invited us to come back again... so....
Saturday was a blast! It was Tiffany Cosajay's BIRTHDAY!!! (background:Tiffany is the daughter of a member in our ward. she recently went to girls camp... her best friend moved to indiana two weeks ago... so.... the missionaries saved the day!) We got all the young women to surprise Tiffany on her birthday and come over for a party! It was great! We went bowling and then we ate cake and had a pinata! It was a great sucess... Poor Blanca though (Tiffany's mom got super sick this weekend and the poor thing had to lay in bed while we had a party for her daughter. We took lots of videos for her though :) )

Sister VanderHoeven and I get along great. She is loving this area and i think that it is a really good for her to be here. We are going to focus a lot on our ward list this week and getting to know all the members. This ward is amazing when it comes to member missionary work so we really want to keep working with them to help encourage them forwards with their awesome work. We have also scheduled two activities with the Young women to help them 1. dress more modestly 9The girls want to look cute... but they don't know how to do that and stay modest.... to the rescue!)  and 2. serve meals to the homeless. Now we are going to work on putting together a......dance class as well! YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT! We had interviews with our mission president this week and this is what happened: I walked in and started talking to my mission president (He has been making a big push for missionaries to use their talents in their work....) He asked how i am using my talents and I told him that I was having a hard time figuring out how to use dance in missionary work... seeing as people might think someone dancing on their doorstep was a little creepy. So anyways I told him that I have been focusing on my other talents: baking, making friends, fashion, memorization etc... and he said " Sister Franzen, I give you special permission... get 5 or 6 people together and start holding a dance class. I want you to use good music (AKA Hymn arrangements) and make the students dress modest. I believe your talent of dance could be a great asset to this mission... so use it" AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO I get to teach dance on my mission! The purpose is to help the youth in the areas I serve 1. cultivate new talents 2. have good wholesome fun and 3. Help them to see what a gift their bodies are! I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!! I will update you all on this more later :) Great miracles happening in Edmonds!
I love you all! Have an amazing week!
Love
Sister Franzen
